BCHW Jr. Division
ENROLLMENT FORMS PAGE

GOAL STATEMENT:  As a member of the BCHW, Jr. Division I will expect to learn about the health and habits of horses and mules.  I will learn to take care of these animals and use them in a humane way.

I will learn a variety of things that will enable me to ride safely in an arena and in the backcountry.  Before I am allowed on a Jr. Division ride I must demonstrate, with my horse, inspecting and preparing the horse, anatomy, loading, my ability to saddle without assistance, go through, around and over obstacles, and cross water.

I must be able to control my animal around other people, animals and when spooked without assistance.  I will be required to pass a series of Standardized Test and Evaluation Process [STEP] tests to receive a rating that will allow me to ride in the appropriately rated rides.

If I choose to ride more than one animal I must qualify on each animal before I am considered “Ready to Ride” [that] animal on the trail in a Jr. Division ride.

A note to the parents;

It is not implied nor is it expected that during these tests and rides that the child is with out parental supervision.  We are encouraging the juniors to experience horsemanship outside the protective wing of their parents.  We want to encourage them to step up to the responsibility and maturity it takes to ride safely and also to have fun with their peers. We also want to offer them a new avenue, a chance to step back in time and experience the outdoors away from negative peer pressures such as drugs and other bad influences.
