Subject: IMPORTANT CONGRESSIONAL BILLS THAT NEED SUPPORT.
First is SENATE BILL 6186
This bill provides a method for DNR to create the LEGACY TRUST and most importantly to begin accumulating assets for the trust.
This trust will provide in perpetuity funds to help maintain access to DNR lands for recreational use.
The following letter or paraphrase of it should be sent to your congressmen and senators use the above links to find the names and address of each.
I am writing to express my support for senate bill 6186. With the shortage of money and expanded demand for funding it seems only logical that this agency be allowed, and encouraged to create funding for one of its prime directives.
DNR is required to maintain its property in a safe condition for public use. It is forbidden the use of the money generated by its present trust management for this purpose. Therefor the money to support the thousands of recreational users must come from the general fund.
I understand that the Legacy trust will create a separate trust of lands and assets that will be managed to provide funding for maintenance, education and enforcement, and the care of access roads.
I am a member of the Backcountry Horsemen of Washington and not only use these properties but participate in maintaining them. We equestrians consider DNR lands to be an important asset of state government and deserves your support.
